What are the benefits of Kinesio Tex® Tape compared with traditional athletic tape?

The Kinesio Tex® Tape is a non-restrictive, elastic taping material. It simply supports, normalizes the muscle function and through this to improve joint stability. In contrast, traditional athletic tape is designed to restrict and support the movement of the injured body part so as to protect the area from further damage. Additionally, the Kinesio Tex® Tape is air permeable and water-resistant. It can stay on for 3-4 days even through sweating and showers and yet easy to remove.

First, proper evaluation technique is important for the application of Kinesio Tex® Tape on tissues. Second, the application demands competent skill in manipulating the Kinesio Tex® Tape. Proper training and practices are essential for a practitioner to apply treatment effectively. The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University has received the approval from Kinesio Taping Association (KTA) to organize KT courses in Hong Kong, Macau and China regularly.

The Kinesio Tex® Tapes inside the blister package and bulk roll are both air permeable, water-resistant and there are no physical or chemical differences concerning the tapes. The reason of difference in package is to suit with individual purpose in different clinical settings.
