Prof. Michael Feuerstein, Ph.D., MPH, ABPP

Prof. Michael Feuerstein is Professor of Medical and Clinical Psychology and Preventive Medicine and Biometrics at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1994 he developed the first military clinical psychology PhD program in the nation at the request of the US Congress and has served as its Director for the past 16 years. The program has trained many of the military¡¦s leaders in clinical psychology. He is the author of 115 scientific publications, 27 chapters in professional books and 7 books including the first textbook in Health Psychology published in 1986. His research, clinical and consulting work is best described as the application of the bio-psychosocial model to complex health problems. His efforts over the past 30 years have been focused on the development of novel approaches to improving function secondary to limitations due to chronic illness. He was the Founder and Director of The Pain Treatment Center and the Center for Occupational Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester Medical Center. At that time he launched a scientific journal that devoted to advancing knowledge related return to work, work rehabilitation and work disability. Over the past 17 years this international, multidisciplinary, peer- reviewed journal has become the flagship journal in the field of occupational rehabilitation. He continues to serve at its Editor-in-Chief.
